Sydney’s most famous cupcake shop is your final destination for today.
Having operated in Sydney for the past 20 years, Cupcakes on Pitt has developed a reputation for the finest cupcakes in the city. Their award-winning cupcakes are made at this very store, by the head pastry chef Young and his family and staff.
Each cupcake is designed to invoke memories of childhood, family and friends, and the team are continually designing beautiful new cupcakes to add to their collection. There are special, seasonal cupcakes that only appear during certain times of the year, including Christmas, Easter, and Halloween.
When Young first took over the store nine years ago, he slept in the loft above the shop so he could get out of bed at 4am every morning to start baking. Now that business has taken off, he can afford to move out and wake up later, but you can still see him in store and baking from 6 every morning.
Foodi Favourite: Lemon Meringue Cupcake
This delicious little cupcake won Gold at the 2006 Sydney Royal Fine Food Festival. It is a moist, lemon cupcake topped with light, fluffy meringue. The small size of the cupcake makes it easy to have in a couple of quick bites, but really packs in the flavour. Other award-winning flavours include chocolate, vanilla, peppermint, and strawberry, which all won Silver.
Other Favourites: Classic Red Velvet Cupcake
What could possibly go wrong with this long-time favourite? The deliciously moist cake is topped by a sweet, creamy layer of cream cheese icing. Pretty as a picture, and enough to get your mouth watering.
